Top 3 Movie Character Costumes for Halloween 2009

Movie characters are one of the prime targets for anyone who is having a hard time thinking of a good Halloween Costume. In 2009, that trend doesn’t look to be changed any as dozens of popular new movie characters have the big scree. So, which costume ideas are going to be the most popular when the end of October rolls around? Here are three possibilities that you may just want to check out on your next trip to the costume shop.

Snake Eyes

GI Joe proved to be the next big toy-to-film extravaganza this year, even managing to deflate a bit of the wind from the sails of the high profile Transformers sequel. As a result, there are a slew of new characters out there that children will want to dress up as. For parents who grew up in the 1980s especially, the onslaught of nostalgia these characters bring with them might be enough to rush out and dress your child as a Joe.

For those who go that route, Snake Eyes will surely be the most popular of the characters to dress up as. Full body suit, high tech ninja style, and a cool looking sword to carry around all night – what else could a child ask for?

Spock

Another classic was reignited this summer movie season with JJ Abrams’ reimagining of Star Trek. And along with the new version come a slew of attractive young actors who many people will want to dress as this fall. It might seem a little strange to see a legion of new under-10 fans dressing as the wayward Vulcan, but it’s sure to happen.

Plus, this is by far one of the easiest costumes of the year. A jar of hair gel, some ear extensions and a tight star fleet shirt with a little com-badge and your child is set. There’s no one alive who won’t recognize the costume in a second.

Anyone from Twilight

Twilight is a mega-phenomenon that just won’t quit. The books were massive and children and teens around the globe are still gobbling them up. As such, the film series that launched last November promises to be just as big and with the sequel, New Moon, being released this November, there will be a fervor of Twilight energy building up as Halloween approaches.

As for the costumes, it’s pretty standard fare. White facepaint, lots of hair gel and some tooth extensions should do the job.

While these three movie franchises were big stories in 2009, there are plenty more out there to choose from. From Harry Potter to District 9 or Wolverine, characters abound from another big year in American movies. So, when your child asks you what a good costume idea would be this year, sit them down in your local video store and let them go to town. The odds that they won’t find something they enjoy and that will make for an eye catching costume are slim to none.
It’s 2009 and in case you haven’t been paying attention the last few years, superheros are as big, if not bigger, than ever. With blockbuster movies like The Dark Knight, Spiderman 3 and Ironman coming out during the last two years, there has been a cascade of children lining up each fall to dress as their favorite masked crusader. So, which superheros are the children most eager to dress up as this year? Here’s a peek at the hottest heroes on the block:

Batman

Batman is always a hot commodity, but after last year’s Dark Knight, he has been bigger than ever before. Children around the world are interested in donning the cape and cowl to swoop around their neighborhoods asking for candy.

The question here is how to go about getting the perfect costume for a child on Halloween. A more expensive Batman costume is likely to be bulky and hard to move in, so it’s recommended that you stick with relatively simple, cloth suits. You can find a Batman mask at almost any costume supply store in the country, though they will vary in quality from simple thin plastic to thicker molded foam. A cape can easily be dug up out of your own thrown out sheets or rags.

Spiderman

Driven by the fact that under the mask is a nerdy, often times picked on kid named Peter Parker, kids all over the world are drawn to the web slinging super hero that is Spiderman.

This remains a hot franchise, largely due to the recent success of the Animated TV series airing on FoxKids. Featuring a teenage Spiderman who must deal with bullies, girls, and all things High School, the character is appealing to young ones more than ever.

The Spiderman costume is a full body suit, so it is going to be easiest to go for a premade costume on this one. You’ll find that many supermarkets and costume supply stores carry a spandex style Spiderman costume, complete with a mask. If you’re worried about letting your child run wild with their head completely covered in fabric, you can also find mask-free costumes.

Wonder Woman

While she hasn’t had a major film made about her or any new television series, Wonder Woman is riding a recent surge of popularity due to her always high profile comic book series and a recent direct to DVD series that sold extremely well.

With few female superheroes to look to, this is a prime option for anyone whose daughter wants to don a cape but doesn’t want to dress as a boy. Because the outfit is relatively sparse, handmade options are doable here. An old tiara from the attic, a lasso from the prop store and some carefully (and likely more conservatively placed) leggings make Wonder Woman a quick and easy dress up target.

Whatever your child decides they want to dress as this year, the odds are they’ll at least consider a superhero. Know who is the most popular and interesting at the moment and you might just make their decision that much easier this year.
